About Us

Our Values

Imagine ~ Create ~ Play

Centred around the Early Years Expressive Arts and Design curriculum, our aim is to ignite imagination, cultivate creativity and promote play. We believe that for young children to have an individual response it’s important not have a set goal. We encourage them to develop their own curiosity and creativity by giving them space and time to experience and explore. We acknowledge their contributions and let them know they are valued so they build confidence and resilience.

Our Studio

Enjoy our fabulous studio facilities where you and your children will then have time to explore, socialise and play in our space which is equipped with facilities such as block creation, small world, role play, indoor mud-kitchen, art and media set ups, sensory trays, malleables area, reading area, instrument area, and fine and gross motor areas. All our equipment and resources are kept at safe, child-friendly level to encourage independence. The open layout enables them to move freely from activity to activity.

Our theme changes weekly, creating new and exciting play environments and activities. We provide a varied program which covers many topics, special cultural and seasonal events and focus on various interests.

Our Classes

During term-time, we offer a series of classes including baby massage, music and art. In these fun, engaging classes, we combine learning together and free play. As well as weekly classes, we offer open studio sessions and seasonal events.

All our classes are underpinned by the three characteristics of effective teaching and learning identified by the EYFS.

The focus of the characteristics of effective learning is on how children learn rather than what they learn i.e. process over outcome. At Express Yourself Studio, we invite children to express themselves through experimentation and manipulation of different media and materials, music making, movement and imaginative play.

    Meet the team

Express Yourself Studio was founded and established in October 2022 by Alexa Nicoll who is Primary School teacher with over 10 years experience. Alexa’s passion lies in Music and education.

The studio was bought by Art and Drama duo Katy Devereux and Kelly Fleming in October 2023. Both Kelly and Katy believe that the expressive arts are an important and powerful tool in the early development of children, helping the growth of vital communication skills and a child’s ability to truly express themselves.

Kelly is a mum to four children ranging from ages 23 to 6 and is a passionate thespian having a degree in Performing Arts. Kelly loves to get everyone singing and she delivers our Baby Sensory classes and Expressive Story time for Toddlers session. Kelly has heaps of experience in theatre and hospitality.

Katy is our resident artist and has a BA Honours degree in Art and Design from Bradford School of Art. Katy specialises in embroidery and printmaking and will be delivering print workshops from the studio’s adjacent space soon! Katy is mum to a vibrant little 2 year old and is our social media expert, having worked in digital marketing for almost 10 years. She speaks Castellano and loves all things Latin America!
